I’m a non-performing songwriter and musician living in San Diego. Born with a voice both unremarkable and prone to being pitchy, I compose lyrics and music and develop a arrangements, then work with talented musicians and singers to bring the best out of the tunes. Usually playing keyboards on these recordings, I incorporate rock, Americana and folk influences to create songs that span musical genres. I also compose instrumentals integrating acoustic and electronic elements tailored for use in movies, television and other media.
Growing up in Georgia, I fell in love with music while falling asleep listening to FM radio (back when that was cool). I learned to play piano and drums. I played in rock bands when I was younger and blues bands in my 50’s. I wrote my first song when I was 17 after being inspired by songwriters like James Taylor, Jackson Brown, Joni Mitchell and Elton John/Bernie Taupin. I continue to be inspired by contemporary writers such as Taylor Goldsmith (Dawes), Jason Isbell and Mary Gauthier.
In 2020, I began writing songs more consistently. In 2025, I retired after a 42 year career as a forensic psychologist and became a full-time songwriter. I have released three albums and two EPs with more on the way. In addition to the website, you can find me wherever you listen to music.
My goal is to continue to develop as a songwriter, co-write with performing musicians, and obtain sync placements in movies, television, etc. I have co-written several songs with San Diego singer-songwriter Amy Barnhart and Grammy-nominated Canadian composer and multi-instrumentalist Doug Cox.
I hope you enjoy and find something meaningful in these tunes.

Your songs are clear, concise and have a positive message that people can carry with them. Even Woody Guthrie himself couldn't have asked for more. He's the singersongwriter saint!
- Jeff Berkley, producer and San Diego musical legend
Rooted in reflection and emotional honesty, Clipson writes music that's both moving and grounded in hope. He doesn't overcomplicate; instead, he leans into simplicity and sincerity.
- Jacqueline Jax, AVA Live Radio
Clark's lyrics often read like poetry - rich with vivid imagery and crafted to draw listeners directly into his world. Whether sharing personal stories or exploring universal human struggles, his songs carry an undercurrent of hope, love and wry humor.
- Tim Morris, New Music Review, UK
“A Long Time Ago” has a heartfelt, nostalgic tone that creates a true connection with the listener. I personally really like the storytelling in the lyrics as it is strong and emotionally grounded.
- Dahiana Schvalemberg, Campfire and Serenades
We had the great pleasure of listening to your song “Inside,” an alternative rock piece with subtle post-punk influences. The sound of this track is highly atmospheric, energetic, and tinged with emotion, while remaining very melodic, harmonious, and captivating.

Your song “Only Child” reminds me a lot of Blackbird by the Beatles.
- Dominik Friedrich, Finest Indie Folk
“Still You Stayed” has the intimacy of songs that have been made in someone's bedroom, but without giving up the quality. Clark Clipson delivers a strong composition, supported by a protagonist piano, acoustic guitar, very well fitted voices and an interpretation that transmits warmth and sincerity. The work is a song of gratitude, narrated by someone who recognizes being loved despite their own flaws. There is tenderness, but without exaggerating the sugar.
- Rodrigo d'Sales Monteiro, Musikorama
Like Maya Angelou's poetry, may your lyrics continue to reflect the complexities of our human experiences and the importance of caring deeply for others.
